Big Walk Troubleshooting Guide
Use the symptom and exact error to choose the smallest reversible test. Do not reinstall or delete saves before a clean host restart and basic checks.
Direct answer
Restart the host cleanly and verify version, clock, network and settings
For connection problems, fully close Big Walk, load the host save and generate a fresh Join Code. Verify accurate clocks and matching first two version numbers. For slow or unstable PCs, lower Render Scale and Quality. Back up visible save data before investigating a crash-related missing world.
Connection checks: the host-loading and Join Code steps were rechecked September 22, 2026; version and settings advice retains its September 8 source review. Save-file precautions are editorial advice, not a recovery promise. House House: cannot join · House House: FAQ
Before you start
- Capture the exact error and identify host versus guest.
- Record platform, game version, world size and island area.
- Do not delete, rename or overwrite save files during diagnosis.
Step-by-step
- 1
Connection timed out
Ask the host to open the in-game menu, then Session Details, and share the current Join Code privately. Guests should wait until the host character has loaded into the world. If joining still fails, both host and guest must close Big Walk completely and reopen it.
- 2
Cannot join or host
On the host screen, read the connection warnings in the lower-left corner. Check that both devices have internet access and can reach Epic Online Services; then compare the first two version components.
- 3
Black screen or hard crash
Cap frame rate or enable VSync, lower Render Scale, close overlays and retest the same area while monitoring system stability.
- 4
Save missing after a crash
Stop creating new worlds, preserve the current files if accessible and contact official support with the crash time and host platform.
- 5
Voice problem
On 1.5.1, check the separate audio-category sliders. If your microphone is not detected, watch Microphone Activity in Settings > Audio, then check the selected input, hardware mute and hold-to-talk setting. Test close together: distance falloff remains intentional.
- 6
Prepare a support report
Include platforms, versions, world size, exact error, area, preceding action and whether a full host restart changed it.
Still stuck?
- If a clean host restart changes nothing, reboot the device as the official FAQ suggests before advanced network changes.
- Read the exact warning: 1.5.1 distinguishes a slow connection from an unstable one. Close network-heavy apps, try a stronger connection and check host performance; include the warning in a support report if it persists.
- If the machine becomes unstable, stop the test; repeated hard locks are not a troubleshooting method.
